This week, we presented our three ideas to the class. The three ideas were escape room, bake cakes, and movies. Based on the feedback and comments from teachers and classmates, we decided to focus on the second idea which is a competition of baking cake. We are going to separate our group into two parts, two or three people will take a baking class and other people will baking cake by themselves. Then, we will bake our own cakes individual and invite some people who are not in our group come here to taste and judge. The place that people who are going to take a baking class will be Hy-Vee or some local shop that provide a baking class. We are trying to get the baking class and the competition has done before the spring break, so we have enough time left to build our website. If we have some problem with the video that we take, we can have more time to fix. Therefore, the main goal from now on is to find the cheapest baking class in Lincoln and decide who is going to take the baking class. All in all, our project is progressing smoothly now and hope future can be as smooth as now.
Week 4 Blog
This week we gave our presentation to the class about what ideas we had for our project. Based on the feedback we got we should focus on our second idea which was a baking competition of some sort. We will have one or two people take a baking class and then have them compete against two people who did not participate in the baking class. The competition would then be judged by people outside of our group. I would guess the judging would consist of a decorating portion and a tasting portion. The class that would be taken would probably be at hy-vee or another local store that has cheap baking class. The idea was also thrown around to look into SEC to see if they had any cake decorating classes. We also need to get a schedule made so we can get that all sorted out. I know we want to try and get the class and filming of the competition done before spring break. That way we can focus a lot of time on the website layout and interaction. Also, that way if we didn’t get enough film of a certain thing we could reenact it. So far our project planning is going smoothly and hopefully, it stays that way.
Week 3 Blog Post
Week 3
This week we met our final group member and discussed with him the details of the project and the ideas we had been discussing the previous week. We finished our Team Contract, as well, and turned that into Canvas. Within the contract, we added the concept of ensuring that anything we have due as a group for class, we complete the day before in order to make sure it is done on time. For example, if something is due by Wednesday at midnight we have it completed by Tuesday instead to ensure there is time for another member to aid with the assignment if the original person is unable to do so. I think this is an important rule to add in, as I’m sure we’ve all had group projects where difficulties arise due to other participant’s inactivity.
This week, we also went over our ideas for the project again. We were able to rule out a few improbably ideas, such as a baseball game, and add a few more, my favorite of these being “Inside the Ross” and learning how movies are shown there. However, I am still very excited by one of our original ideas of doing an escape room and perhaps learning the semantics behind it, i.e. how it is set up and what it looks like behind the scenes.
Week 3 Blog
In this week, all the group members of our team were showed up. We completed the Team Contract together and turned it into Canvas. Then we began to discuss what we need to prepare for the next week presentation. Firstly, we created a Google slide together, and then we started to discuss what topic we wanted to do for our project. We chose three topics from a bunch of ideas: go to an escape room, take a baking class, watch movies and learn the process and details of film showings. After we choose the three topics, we began to work on the Google Slides and to figure out the main ideas of these three topics and the challenges that we would be faced.
Next week, we will work together to finish the PowerPoint and get ready for the presentation. We will do more work for our project next week; the past two weeks were just the beginning. For the next week, we are going to do more work and get more details for our project. We will decide which specific topic that we are going to do for the project and begin to start it. We are all feeling excited to get started it.
Week #3
This week we didn’t have much to do. We gained our final group member this week which allowed us to finish up our Team Contract. Finishing up the contract allowed us to get our planning out of the way for the semester and get communication started between the group. We started a group me and got a google slide going for our presentation we do next week. After we got that all started we focused on our different ideas for our project. We narrowed down all our ideas to our final three. Those top ideas ended up being going to an escape room, having a baking competition, and watching a movie and getting a behind the scenes view.
For this next week, we all plan to help with the presentation that we need to give. It’s not that long as a presentation we all just want to be informed with what we will be speaking on. After this week we will start getting a lot more done for our project as we will finally have our idea finalized. There is nothing I would do differently in the future as we are just getting started. I think we are all excited to get a project idea finalized and hit the ground running.
Week 2
This week, we got our group together and met up during the class time. The first thing that we did is to introduce ourselves and tried to know each other well. In our group, someone are good at photography, someone is skilled in shooting and editing videos and so on. After the introduction, we could get ready for the group work and distributes different tasks to everyone.
Then, we began to read through the instruction of the group project and get to know what should we do for this semester. we began to discuss what topic that we will do for this project, like picnic in the Park, go to visit Morrill hall, or bake cakes… We discussed a lot, and we need to think about lots of parts when we are doing this project. Although some ideas were nice and attractive, the cost is a serious problem. Therefore, we decided that we were not planning to do something that would cost money.
For this week, we didn’t have any work that need to complete yet. The only thing that we need to worry about is the blog. For next week, we are going to come up more ideas for our topic and decide which topic that we will do for this semester.
Week 2
This week our group was initially formed. From here we first became acquainted with each other and determined what some of our strengths and weaknesses are. There are some in the group that are better with photography, specifically, and video or audio, for example. These will be helpful qualities in the future when we are working on the project itself.
Aside from introductions, we spent some time looking at example projects and deciding what we liked from those and could, in part, emulate in our own. As well, we began to think of our own potential ideas for the project. Some of our ideas ranged from taking a class of some kind, having a picnic in the park, doing an escape room, or having a bake off. The major problem we were encountering is time allotted to do the activity, as we all have similar yet busy schedules, and the expense of the activity. While some of the ideas we came up with would be enjoyable, they were too expensive to really pursue.
Lastly, we started working on the contract for our group and found that our ideas on a group project mostly align with each other. For next week, we will continue to think of further ideas for potential activities and finish the contract for the group.
Week 2 Blog
This week we got our group for the semester. We started brainstorming ideas for a group activity to do together. As a group, we started writing up our team contract, which was fairly easy to do. We didn’t really face any challenges this week since we were just meeting for the first time and figuring out what we needed to do.
Some of the ideas we came up with for our group activity include going to an escape room, having a cooking competition, taking a class together at the rec, going to a Lincoln Salt Dogs game, and visiting a museum in town. The hardest part is finding something that everyone would find enjoyable to do with also keeping a low budget. We had at first ruled out anything that would cost money but after more discussion and consideration we figured that wasn’t the best idea. With many of our ideas including a little bit of money to be spent like the escape room and sporting event.
For the next week we don’t have anything that needs to be done by any team member before the next class. We plan to finish the contract once everyone is there to discuss it and provide input. Along with only having an individual blog post due this week, we should be set for the coming weeks with everything done.
Blog Post Week #2
This week my group met up and completed our contract while also discussing potential project options. When discussing our contract as well as project options we decided simplicity will be key in this assignment. Our group as a whole gets together very well, so there is no need to make things difficult by implementing a bunch of rules. As for ideas we talked a lot about potential ideas and how our individual skills could benefit the group. Some potential options we talked about included the following:
- Visit Morrill Hall
- Cake Baking Competition
- Go to the farmers market
- Go to an athletic event
- Picnic in the Park
We are very excited to get started on this project and our ideas revolve around fun and inexpensive topics. We decided to keep it this way because one thing we all agreed on was that paying a lot of money for a class or activity was just not possible for all members of the group. We are looking forward to finalizing our idea in the coming classes.
