Week 9

This week was a slower week for our project. We finished the final details on the preliminary content submission before turning it in. I had done all of the drawing of the ideas for the website and each of its pages last week, so this week just required putting it into the word document.

In class, we continued with our interactive analysis presentations and did not meet as a group, in class or out. Our focus is now on the following steps on our project. Personally, I have to reshoot some of my preparations for the competition, or lack of preparations, because they were shot the wrong way on my phone. As a group, our next step is to figure out a time to practice the competition. This would be mostly to find the location where we will be doing this and map the angles we want. After that, the next step would be to have the actual competition and create each of our cakes. We will need to do this soon so we can begin our editing of the footage and the website itself.

Week 9

This week we do not have much to do. With spring break right around the corner, we are just trying to put together some loose ends beforehand. This week I worked on some research about how to set up our website. There really is not much more for us to do until we meet up and film the actual competition. I did watch some more youtube videos about cake decorating. I have realized there are some really really bad videos about cake decorating. As a group we have all put together some solid pieces so far for our project. I looked over all the footage we were able to piece together from all different sources and everything seems good so far. The couple bio videos we have will work perfectly for what we need them too. I watched a couple cake decorating competitions too. This has given me some good ideas for our own competition. Like having mid-point interviews with each of the contestants. Seeing all the presentations in class is also giving me good ideas for our website. I think if we get our filming done the week after spring break it will give us a lot of time to make a great website.

Week #8 Blog Post

This week we worked as a group to get all of our elements together. We talked about how our website layout was going to go and we also narrowed down dates to practice our compeition. We all talked and decided that if it was possible we could use wix elements to allow viewers to vote on our final compeition. This would make the viewers of our website the judges instead of bringing in outside judges for the final compeiton. We researched differnt baking shows and decided to use elements from the Netflix show Nailed it to base our competion off of. We all think that it will be fun to create a name and logo for our competiton while also implementing our practice videos into individual bios for each person.

Week 8

The focus on this week was creating and editing our preliminary content submission. This is a detailed report, essentially, of where we are in our project thus far in the semester. Our submission contained a multitude of elements within it. It contains a project overview, explaining the intricacies of the project we chose. Again, this was a completing a cake decorating competition based on differing levels of experience and preparation. These preparations included being taught by someone who frequently bakes, watching YouTube tutorials and a lack of preparation. Following the overview, each member detailed their owns specific preparation. My preparation was nonexistent, short of watching the Netflix show “Nailed It” and eating frosting, obviously, a very taxing and difficult preparation. We then detailed our nine planned steps of the project and where we are within our own plan. We have accomplished four of our nine steps, thus far, and are preparing for the next step. We included the rules for the competition that we decided together, as well as the tools each competitor will be able to use and/or practiced with. Below that is our website overview. This includes pictures that can be a bit difficult to read, as they are photos from a very reflective background. Underneath each photo is a description of the plan for the page and further explanation of what it will entail. The final page contains of the preliminary content provides a link to a box folder which includes each of our individual video for our individual research/ preparation for the competition.

Week 8 Blog

This week, we had a group discussion during class. We discussed preliminary content submission. We created a google doc and divided some parts to each person. I was working on our project overview and what we prepared for the project. For the project overview part, I needed to explain what is our project, what we learn from this project and the plan of our project. We planned to complete the preliminary content submission by Sunday night so that we would have one more day to edit it. Also, if someone was not able to finish it on time, we would have enough time to complete it.

Next week, we are going to begin the website layout, and start to edit all the footages. We may have a practice competition next week and we need to do some preparation for it.  In this week, we create a website in WIX.com for our project, and we are going to start to add more information, videos, and photos on it after the layout of the website is done. We still have more work to do for the project. Overall, we did a nice job this week, and we are going to do more works on our project next week.

Week 8

This week with being able to meet with our group during class made it super easy. We all worked on small parts of our preliminary content submission. I was in charge of writing our media overview to explain what we would be doing with the media we had already pulled together. We plan to have all our parts done for the preliminary content submission by Sunday afternoon. This way if someone is having trouble with their part, we can all step in to help them. Planning that extra day to do finishing touch-ups on our project is a great plan for us, I think. I plan to get a little bit more footage of me preparing for the competition this next week also. It will fit into our media perfectly. I plan on finding some articles on cake decorating to read from that way we can link to them on our website after we have finished the competition. We decided on a layout for our website this week to follow so we can find content that will work perfectly for our website. This way there is not one or multiple of us recording the wrong content and having to redo it all in a panic at the end of the semester.

Week 7

This week was has been a super weird week with not having the class to meet up. Without class we just kind of did our own thing to get ready for our presentation we need to give in class. Everyone kind of worked on their own thing with getting their footage ready. I wasn’t able to do my originally planned idea, so I had to improvise a bit with my work. Everything seems to be going smoothly at this point and in a couple of weeks we should be ready to actually do our event together. Once we are all able to meet up at the same time and film the event the rest of the semester will go super smooth. There is not much we can do as a group until we host our little competition in a couple of weeks. So the workflow will be a little slow and then pick right back up after that as we put together all the pieces. I’m looking forward to our presentation this week as it should show the individual steps everyone did to get ready for the competition and it will be interesting to see what different things everyone learned. Hopefully, everything works out the way it should!

Week 7 Blog

This week, we are working on our own part. Some of the people in our group watch YouTube videos to learn how to decorate cakes, some learn from friends. Last week, I learned how to decorate cakes from my friends and shot some footage for that. In this week, I edited more on these footage and edited these scripts into a complete video. We didn’t meet in this week because of the horrible weather, but we had some discussion on GroupMe. We are going to create a box folder for us to share the videos that we shot individually, and the box folder will help us to edit these videos more easily.
For next week, we are planning to have a practice competition for decorating cakes. For the practice cake decorating session, we will find an empty room for us but we will not buy a real cake. It is because the practice cake decorating session is to let us practice how to set our camera and go through all the stuff. This practice cake decorating session could help us to be more confident when we have a final real competition. All in all, our group project is progressing well now and hope so in the future.

Week 7

This week was similar to last week in that it revolved around individual work instead on team work. This week we again did not meet as a group during class time. Of course, there was a snow day, so we didn’t have class at all. However, if there had been class, we wouldn’t have met either as we are still working on our interactive analysis presentations. Individually, we are still working on recording our own learning experiences for decorating a cake. I think most of us have the entirety of our video for this piece of the project, or at least most of it. We are creating a shared box folder where we can all share our individual material and keep it all in the same place. That way, editing the material will also be easier, as it will all be in one spot accessible to all of us. The next step of our project will be to meet in the room where we plan on doing the competition and have a practice session. For this, we will have a “practice cake decorating session” for which we will be using paper and crayons. The point of the practice session is not to have a premier round of the competition but instead to see the camera angles that will be beneficial for the actual competition. Essentially, it is to figure out the logistics of the competition. We should hopefully be executing this in the coming week.
